Maine
1808: Camden, Maine, Sighting
In the summer of 1808, school teacher Cynthia Everette wrote in her diary about a strange light moving erratically above her home: “About 10 o’clock I saw a very strange appearance. It was a light which proceeded from the East. At the first sight, I thought it was a meteor, but from its motion I soon perceived it was not. I[t] seem to dart at first as quickly as light; and appeared to be in the Atmosphere, but lowered toward the ground and kept on at an equal distance sometimes ascending and sometimes descending. It moved round in the then visible Horizon, and then returned back again, nor did we view it till it was extinguished.”
1976: Allagash Abductions
While canoeing in Maine, four college students reported seeing a UFO fly over them repeatedly. Rangers ignored these claims, as what they had witnessed was a distant floodlight; however the men insisted what they had seen was real.
Years later, the men claim to have chronic nightmares about humanoid creatures levitating over their heads and pricking them with needles. Under hypnosis, they recalled being taken aboard the ship and performing medical experiments on them.
It is likely that the boys fabricated most of the story, as stated by one of them in an interview years later. However, all of them retain the claim that they did see an unusual object fly over them.
New Hampshire
1961: The Betty and Barney Hill Incident
On September 19th, 1961, in Exeter, NH, Betty and Barney Hill reported to the police that they had been abducted by a UFO spacecraft. According to reports, at around 10 pm, the couple first spotted a bright light flying upwards in the sky above them. An hour later, as the couple drove past Mount Pemigewasse, they detailed that the craft hovered about 80 feet above their car, forcing them to stop. Looking up towards the craft, they saw eight humanoid creatures dressed in black peering down at them. They were then instructed to stay where they were, and hours later, they continued their journey home without any recollection of the events.
In the immediate aftermath, they stated there were multiple anomalies with thier home and persons: a constant buzzing noise, fragmented memory, torn clothing, their watches no longer functioning, a strange and unidentified pink dust scattered about, and metallic rings on the bottom of their car; that when a compass was placed against, would whir around rapidly.
1965: Incident At Exeter/Exeter Incident
On September 3, 1965, in Exeter, NH, a patrolman reported that he talked to a women stopped on the side of the road. She claimed to have been chased by multiple flying lights. A few hours later, an 18 year old had reported to the police that he had seen similar lights hovering over a house while he as hitchhiking. Upon taking the witness back to the house, the police claimed to have witnessed the same exact lights.

1907: The Bishop’s Folly
A widely unknown UFO phenomenon occurred in Burlington, VT. According to a story told in the Monthly Weather Review; Bishop John S. Michaud was standing on the corner of College and Church Streets when he was startled by an explosion. Turning to look, he saw an object “stationary in appearance, and suspended in the air, about 50 feet above the tops of the buildings.” The object was reportedly 6 feet in diameter, dark in appearance, and would lash out with a blinding red flame. About 20 minutes later, there was a tremendous downpour of rain, which lasted for two hours.
It’s likely that what the Bishop really witnessed was a rare meteorological event called a ball of lightning, or lightning ball. The cause of this phenomena is not well understood, but thier characteristics align with the description given by the Bishop. Lightning balls are violent and unstable groupings of energy that lash out and explode; similar to what the Bishop had described.
1961: North Concord Air Force Station, VT
During the Cold War, the United States military set up a base at East Mountain, which was home to around 170 personnel. According to official military reports, a small unidentified object was seen hovering over the peak of East Mountain; it remained there for about 18 minutes. This was hours before the Betty and Barney Hill incident.

In the summer of 1968, two camp counselors from Colchester, VT claimed they were abducted while watching the sunset.
According to thier reports, a cigar-shaped object descended from the sky and hovered in front of the pair. Two humanoid creatures emerged from the dome of the object and communicated telepathically with them. The creatures proclaimed they meant the pair no harm, and that they had traveled to Earth to collect energy. The counselors were ten hit with a beam of light, causing them to lose consciousness.

1967: Photos of East Woonsocket UFO
In June of 1967 there were multiple reports of unidentifiable aircraft flying over the Woonsocket and Olneyville areas. Harold Trudel from East Woonsocket, RI, was driving towards Cumberland when he spotted an unusual flying aircraft hovering above the powerlines. He described it as 30 meters in diameter, with a white cylindrical top. He disclosed that he had seen similar phenome around the area multiple times before and had set out to capture photos of the craft.
When the aircraft sped away, the power in the surrounding area failed, and residents reported a rumbling noise followed by a large bang and bright flash. The area in which the transmission failed was where Trudel had witnessed the UFO.
Connecticut
1987: The Newtown Lights
A man was taking a nighttime walk around his neighborhood when he spotted unusual lights flying in from the West. As the objects passed over the highway, cars reported losing power.
As the night progressed, over 200 people in the area called into the police; all of which described the same strange craft. It was described as a structure as wide as a football field with orange and red lights.
The source of these lights are unknown.
2012: The Green Whale of Bantam Lake
In the summer of 2012, an unidentified motorist reported to police that he had seen a gigantic, incandescent object fall into Bantam Lake. Police and firefighters combed the area, but found little.
To this day, its unclear whether this was a fallen meteor or a creepy-crawly alien spacecraft. It was deemed the Green Whale of Bantam Lake after Connecticut’s state animal; the Sperm Whale.
Officials have accepted that the falling object was likely a fallen meteor. When meteors burn up in Earth’s atmosphere, they often burn in a greenish hue.
Massachusetts
1639: First Recorded UFO Sighting
On March 15th, 1639, the governor and co-founder of the colony, John Winthrop, recorded the events of a local man named James Everell. According to Everell’s testimony, he was rowing up Muddy River at night when he was stopped by a “great light.” He described the object as a 3 meters-squared oval disk, and when stationary, the object was enveloped in a flame-like radiance; when in motion, it took the form of a swine and moved “as fast as an arrowhead.” Afterward, he told Winthrop that he had suddenly appeared a mile stream without recollection of how or when he had moved.
The cause of this sighting was unknown.
1969: Berkshire UFO Incident
On September 1st, 1969 multiple residents in Berkshire County, MA, reported seeing an unidentified flying object in the area. The most detailed of which came from the Reed family. They claimed that as they were driving over a bridge, an undulating ball of light rose from beneath the wood panels and began to follow thier car. It was soon joined by another ball of light and a large spacecraft.
The family reported that thier car slowed, as if driving underwater. A bright light lit up the car and surrounding area, and the family lost consciousness. Three hours later, they woke and the car was completely powered off, and each member of the family was in a different seat.
The cause of this sighting is unknown, however many speculate the U.S. military was involved.
